Kitsune
Source: The Gods Are Bastards - Web Serial
Type: Powerful Fae Entity
Sentience: Yes
Physical Description
Kitsune are fox-like fae spirits, typically appearing as beautiful humanoid beings with fox-like features or as magnificent foxes with multiple tails. Their appearance can shift between forms, reflecting their mastery of shapeshifting and illusion. They often have piercing, intelligent eyes and an air of cunning grace. More powerful kitsune display more tails (up to nine), with tail count indicating their age and power.
Kitsune possess an otherworldly beauty and charm that is both captivating and dangerous. Their physical forms are often fluid, allowing them to appear as humans, foxes, or hybrid forms at will. This shapeshifting ability is one of their defining characteristics, making them masters of disguise and deception.
Personality
Kitsune are spirits of play, passion, and deceit. They are cunning, intelligent tricksters who delight in games, pranks, and manipulation. Above all, kitsune are unpredictable—they embody the chaotic and untamed aspects of nature. They can be playful companions one moment and dangerous adversaries the next, depending on their mood and the situation.
Kitsune see themselves as teachers whose job it is to enlighten those they bind with. However, the lessons they teach and the methods they use are not the sort of thing a mortal mind comprehends with ease. Their teaching style may seem cruel, confusing, or nonsensical to humans, but they operate on principles and understandings that transcend mortal understanding.
Their personalities reflect their nature as the eldest daughters of Naiya, created before even the goddess could fully control them. Kitsune are fiercely independent, passionate, and often act on whims rather than logic. They value freedom, creativity, and emotional expression, but can also be capricious, vengeful, and dangerous when crossed.
Very little is known about kitsune. There are very few of them in existence, and they are extremely reclusive. Most knowledge about them is fragmentary, based on rare encounters and cryptic references.
Location
Kitsune are extremely reclusive and are ONLY found with any regularity in their home of the Twilight Forest in Sifan. The Twilight Forest is the land that Naiya created specifically for them to inhabit after she could not control their wild nature. While they may theoretically be encountered elsewhere in rare circumstances, the Twilight Forest in Sifan is where they make their home and where virtually all encounters with kitsune occur.
They almost never venture beyond the Twilight Forest, and encounters elsewhere would be extraordinarily rare and likely require exceptional circumstances.
