Relationship to Other Deities

Elilial is opposed to most pantheon deities, especially lawful and good-aligned gods. Her relationship with the Pantheon is one of deep enmity, as they threw her down for treason following the Third Hell War. However, she also maintains complex relationships with the remaining Elder Gods—she ousted Scylith from Hell but likely maintains some understanding with Naiya given their shared history as Elder-era beings (though Naiya assisted the Pantheon).

She maintains absolute control over demons and infernal entities in Hell, though some demons still hold allegiance to Scylith despite Elilial's rule.

The Third Hell War and Fall from the Pantheon

Around 5000 years ago, Elilial launched a coup against Scylith, the Elder Goddess who had ruled Hell since the fall of the Elder Gods. Elilial sought to take control of Hell and claim Scylith's position as Queen of Demons.

During their battle, the veil between the material plane and Hell ripped open, allowing infernal forces to flood into the world. This event triggered the Third Hell War, which was by far the bloodiest of the three Hell Wars and lasted for decades, devastating civilization across the world.

The details of the war's end are lost to history. However, the Pantheon preaches that Elilial's coup against Scylith was a first step to position herself to take down the Pantheon itself. While the Pantheon assisted Elilial in defeating and binding Scylith deep in the dark places of the world, they also recognized the threat Elilial represented.

Following Scylith's defeat, the Pantheon threw down Elilial for her supposed treason, accusing her of using the conflict as a means to gain power and ultimately turn against the gods themselves. In response to this judgment, Elilial retreated to Hell and took up control of the plane, becoming the new Queen of Demons after Scylith's fall.

This marked Elilial's violent departure from the Pantheon. She now rules Hell from Scylith's former throne, commanding the demons and infernal forces that inhabit the plane.
