Chaos Domain

Source: Custom Domain
Type: Custom Domain

Overview

The Chaos Domain focuses on unpredictability, randomness, and the dissolution of order. Clerics of this domain serve the corrupted god Calomnar, embracing disorder and chaos as a natural force.

Associated Deities

  • Calomnar - God of Chaos (former pantheon member, banished to Nether Realm)

Warning: Calomnar was banished to the Nether Realm after being corrupted by Chaos itself. Clerics of Chaos are extremely rare and may face persecution.

You gain domain spells at the cleric levels noted in the Chaos Domain Spells table. See the Magic/Divine page for how domain spells work.

Domain Features

Clerics who choose the Chaos Domain gain the following features:

Bonus Proficiency

At 1st level, you gain proficiency with martial weapons.

Chaotic Presence

At 1st level, you radiate chaotic energy that unsettles those around you. When a hostile creature starts its turn within 10 feet of you, it must make a Wisdom saving throw against your spell save DC. On a failed save, the creature has disadvantage on attack rolls against you until the start of its next turn.

Channel Divinity: Unstable Reality

Starting at 2nd level, you can use your Channel Divinity to twist reality unpredictably. As an action, you choose a point within 60 feet of you. Each creature within 20 feet of that point must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, roll on the Wild Magic Surge table (from the Sorcerer class) and apply the effect to that creature. On a successful save, the creature is unaffected. You can choose to exclude any number of creatures you can see from this effect.

Entropic Shield

Starting at 6th level, chaos protects you from harm. When you are hit by an attack, you can use your reaction to roll a d10. On a 1-3, you take the damage normally. On a 4-7, you take half damage. On an 8-10, you take no damage and the attacker takes 1d8 force damage.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier (a minimum of once). You regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Divine Strike

At 8th level, you gain the ability to infuse your weapon strikes with unpredictable energy. Once on each of your turns when you hit a creature with a weapon attack, you can cause the attack to deal an extra 1d8 damage of a random type. Roll 1d6 to determine the type: 1-acid, 2-cold, 3-fire, 4-lightning, 5-poison, 6-thunder. When you reach 14th level, the extra damage increases to 2d8, and you can choose the damage type instead of rolling randomly.

Avatar of Chaos

At 17th level, you become an embodiment of chaos. You are immune to being charmed or frightened, and spells or effects that would force order or structure (such as Calm Emotions or effects that remove randomness) have no effect on you. Additionally, whenever you make an attack roll, ability check, or saving throw, you can roll a d20 and choose to use either that roll or your normal roll.

Severe Warning: Embracing chaos at this level may draw the attention of the Nether Realm and further corruption.
